I live right around the corner from Curry-Ya, but have yet to try it. Also on that block--and there is a high concentration of Japanese restaurants in the East Village--is a branch of the Teriyaki Boy chain, which serves curries. I have never tried the chicken katsu curry there, but the chicken curry is fantastic. Also their curry noodle soup is a sure cure for what ails ya!

Hi, sorry, I just added in the serving size. This recipe, depending on potato size and croquette size should yield about 6-8 patties.

In my opinion, the best curry on Sawtelle is across the street and a block north at GR:eats, the Giant Robot-affiliated cafe. The curry flavor is more subtle and the meat and veggies all taste much fresher.

i have loved the curry here for the past 10 years. unfortunately, the service has deteriorated to the point where even i can't stand it. i will go back only if i have a strong enough craving to last through half-hour water refills and lukewarm rice.

the curry itself deserves four stars.

I don't mean to detract from the point of this blog, since I love Japanese curry myself, but are you the same Chris Kohler of video game journalism fame? If you are, I own your book and it's pretty cool to see your input on curry on the west coast.

Now if only more curry shops would open up outside of NYC on the east coast...
